10,000 books!?

"A person who has not read 10,000 books and traveled 10,000 miles cannot consider himself an accomplished gentleman."

EDIT: I figured up if a person lives to be 85, she would have to read about 117 books a year or one book every three days. Doable? Perhaps, if you include all the pictures book you read as a child, or all the pictures book you read to your children.

I wonder how many books I've read. I've done the 10,000 miles so maybe I'm on my way to being an accomplished gentleman.

I read thirty books last year. At that pace I would read 3000 books in what - a hundred years. Obviously, the Chinese have very short books. I could probably read 10,000 comic books.
As for the 10,000 miles, why would that make you a gentleman?
I just want to hit this guy for such rubbish.

Richard, you read more than any male I know. Most guys don't make reading a priority anymore the way that women often do. I've never heard of an all guy reading group. Perhpas by today's standards you've already met the requirements to be a gentlemen. In the meantime, just go hit some random person to help you feel better. (kidding, I'm kidding).

ps-I'm looking forward to your reading recommendations when I get home this summer.
