Can I brag for a moment? Will you indulge me?
I received my grades for the semester. I got an A in both Cold War history and Sci-Fi literature!! YAYAYAY!
And...(this is the most exciting part, IMHO), my Sci-Fi professor had this to say about my short story:
This story is absolutely first rate! Expository details and information are so smoothly woven into the narrative structure that they appear just when needed. The narrative voice evokes a character that is at once knowledgeable of her own desire and innocent of others’. And the story delivers on this opposition. For the narrator not only encounters an alien desire, as one expects her to do, but this encounter gives the plot its poignant twist: Her lover’s desire is alien only in the sense that, because of his excluded position, he understands the limit of his relationship with the narrator and also the only way to transgress it. The ending more than delivers! Bravo! I would encourage you to submit the story to The Alchemist Review, the creative writing journal sponsored by the English department.

(sidenote for my mom: I took the boys' to the Dr. today and they tested negative for Strep. As of now, it is just a cold. They'll still run the 24 hour culture, but hopefully we are in the clear.)
