It took me an hour and a half to get there, but I finally hiked all the way to the Romano pools. It was a much tougher hike than I expected. It was a 5.8 mile hike, start to finish. I felt such a sense of accomplishment when I had reached the water. It was probably one of the most physically challenging tasks I've done in the past several years. This link is a little video clip I took at the pools. Nothing special, but it does document my accomplishment :)

Not only can you see the mountain side, but you can also see the city down in the valley below. Ever since we moved here 4 years ago, I have looked up at these mountians and wished that I could climb them. Today I did, and it was every bit as challenging and rewarding that I expected it would be. At one point, I turned my iPod off so that I could just walk in silence. For most of the morning, I was alone. I didn't run into many people until on the way back down the mountain. I was very peaceful to be alone in all the quiet and so close to nature. I won't post all the pics in my lj, but they are in my flickr account if you want to see them.
